When you try something new and want to be better at that thing, people usually will try to come up with steps to get better at that thing. I think there is a better way. You can ask yourself a question like, how do I become someone who can be considered an expert on this skill? Answering this question constantly will give you more useful answers instead of trying to think of steps towards the goal because these steps you come up with could be completely wrong. Identity-based questions will typically give you more right answers than wrong ones.
